Crossing the Line: Historical Emigration Across the U.S.-Canadian Border

  • 24 Nov 2025
  • 6:30 PM - 8:00 PM
  • Zoom

The U.S. and Canada share the longest international border in the world (approximately 5,500 miles or 8,900 km. Until the late 1800s, however, the border was totally open, with no regulation or monitoring. We’ll talk about when the tracking started, what has been recorded, and where records can be found, as well as why we care and what we can learn.

Diana Crisman Smith has been researching, speaking, writing, and teaching for over 6 decades. She has particularly enjoyed researching her US, Canadian, and Danish ancestors.  She is a past board member for several societies. Her work has included online courses for land records, death records, Scandinavian research,  RootsMagic software, military records, census, directories, and more. She has published numerous articles and is the author of 4 books and has presented at conferences around the USA and at sea.

This event is provided free of charge from the National Danish-American Genealogical Society. No need to register, just join us via the Zoom link below.
