Data Limitations:
•  Expect cemeteries of the same name, even within a given township.
•  Because of the "same name" problem, there may be a few instances where it was difficult to match a transcription to the correct cemetery; read the notes fields.
•  Many cemeteries have been moved; we did our best to identify these, and to give the background information in the notes field.
•  Blank fields do exist; we did our best!
•  If you are having trouble, browse the cemetery list for your county and for bordering counties.
•  Longitude/latitude have been estimated.
•  Many cemeteries will not have an exact postal address.
•  Indian mounds are not included in this database; public cemeteries where Native Americans are buried are included.
•  Omissions are inevitable-it was impossible to recapture information on many early burial sites that are no longer visible as cemeteries. If you know a correction or addition, please send this information to MGS!
•  Errors are also impossible to prevent; use this inventory as a finding aid, and confirm the information for your family! Always check original records!

How the information was compiled: A survey form was mailed to every courthouse and genealogical or historical society in the State of Minnesota. Each volunteer personally contacted local societies in the county for assistance, and then checked a variety of sources known to contain information on Minnesota cemeteries. These included: maps; the U.S. Geological Survey; Wiley Pope's "Cemeteries in Print"; the old MGS Cemetery Notebooks; WPA Survey of Minnesota cemeteries; the "Dalby Burial Files"; the "Kirchner Burial Files"; the 2001 Mortuary Science survey, compiled by the State of MN; cemetery transcriptions published in the Minnesota Genealogist; a search of the Internet; church, county and town histories; and local directories, if available. Volunteers checked card catalogs at MGS, the Family History Library; and the Minnesota Historical Society. Many volunteers also visited their county, and the cemeteries in their county, and contacted area churches, funeral homes, local societies and the county courthouse. Each volunteer used unique methods to communicate with others, and they encountered various responses. Accordingly, the results county-to-county may vary. The date of completion for each county also varies. Some were completed as early as 2001, but most have been completed in 2005 and 2006.

Otter Tail Historical Society Cemetery Reference number 11. Alternate contacts are: Arlan Weiss P.O. box 71, Erhard MN 56534; Willis Scheer 19257 County Highway 24, Erhard, MN 56534. Bagstevold Church (now Grace Church) was organized in 1875. Halvor Bagstevold gave 2 acres to be used as a cemetery. Three members of Grace Church are elected at an annual church meeting to serve on the cemetery committee. The original church which stood on cemetery property was struck by lightning in 1903 and was rebuild and moved to Erhard in 1928; the cemetery retained the name Bagstevold. There are about 550 burials to January 2003 with about 95 unmarked graves. Early church and cemetery records are in Norwegian.

Otter Tail Historical Society Cemetery Reference number 82. There are two cemetery locations associated with Bethel Lutheran Church of Dalton, both located in section 13. Notes
Otter Tail Historical Society Cemetery Reference number 95. Land for the cemetery was purchased from the Swedish Baptist church in 1898 for $275. The church building was closed and sold to a nearby farmer and members of the congregation dispersed to other Lutheran churches in the area. There are about 80 burials to July 2003 with only a few available burial plots remaining.

Otter Tail Historical Society Cemetery Reference number 2. East North Immanuel church and West North Immanuel church merged in the mid 1900s and the West North Immanuel church was torn down. Both cemeteries are maintained by the Cemetery Board of the North Immanuel Church at 12713 County Highway 30, Pelican Rapids, MN 56572. The East North Immanuel cemetery has about 300 burials, the West North Immanuel has about 150 burials.

Otter Tail Historical Society Cemetery Reference number 103. The cemetery served a congregation in the Erhard area as well as the First Lutheran Congregation. Land for the cemetery was acquired in 1893. In the 1970s, additional acreage was acquired for the cemetery from the State of Minnesota.

Otter Tail Historical Society Cemetery Reference number 217. Two sons of John H. Taplin are buried in section 30. John Taplin Jr., 14 years died 8 January 1889; Lorenzo, age 20 years died 17 April 1889. A cross is engraved in a field stone at the gravesite. Otter Tail Historical Society Cemetery Reference number 175 places this cemetery in section 34. Gausdal church incorporated in 1887 as was the cemetery. Early records are in Norwegian. An estimated 300 burials exist to July 2003. Twenty bodes were moved from the Paul Olson Farm to the cemetery in 1888.

Otter Tail Historical Society Cemetery Reference number 51 locates this cemetery in NW 33. South Grove Lake Church and North Grove Lake church merged abt 1883 to become Grove Lake Church. The North Grove Lake church building was cut in half and the South Grove Lake church building placed in the middle of the North building. South Grove Lake Cem is less active and has abt 60 burials, Grove Lake Cem has abt. 500 burials in 2001.

Otter Tail Historical Society Cemetery Reference number 134. Bethlehem Cem Assoc. incorporated spring 2000, merging the management of Pioneer, Bethlehem and Kongsburg cemeteries. Four additional acres around Knogsburg Cemetery where purchased by the Bethlehem Cem. Assoc. for future expansion. Kongsburg was organized in 1872, its church building completed in 1886. The church was moved to Foxhome Minnesota about 1938 where it burned a year later. The Kongsburg congregation united with Bethlehem Lutheran Church in 1940.

From Dalton, take Highway 12 through Main Street in Dalton, go east approx 1.5 miles, turn south on Highway 117 to Kvam Church (about 3 miles).
Notes
Otter Tail Historical Society Cemetery Reference number 80. The Kvam church was organized in 1868, and construction of the church building began the following year. Parish record books show the first burial was in 1877; however, since the church was organized much earlier, it is possible that there are burials that are not recorded. The congregation made application to have the deed to the church and the cemetery recorded in October 1876. Early records are in Norwegian and there are estimated to be over 300 burials to June 2003.

Maplewood Presbyterian Church active until late 1950's; building torn down in 1979. No records of burials were kept for approx. 25 year in the early 1900's. USGS GNIS database lists this as Erhard-Maplewood Church with cemetery.

Otter Tail Historical Society Cemetery Reference number 76. The cemetery was organized June 1898 by the Church of Jesus Christ (Cutlerites) and incorporated as Mount Pleasant Cemetery Assn 16 Oct, 1963. There are approx 370 burials to January 2003 with about 2 burials per year. The Cutlerite Church of Independence Missouri owns the title to the cemetery, elected Directors of the Cemetery manage cemetery operations (none of whom, at this time, are members). The church headquarters and membership are located in Independence, Missouri.

Established in 1873 by a group of civic minded citizens who realized the need for a non-denominational cemetery for the people of Fergus Falls and surrounding area. There is a special civil war veterans section as well as 6000 burials to January 2003. There are approximately 45 burials each year.

Otter Tail Historical Society Cemetery Reference number 15. Five burials in a field west of where the Sanitarium stood and across the street. The burial sites are unmarked, no records available. Otter Tail County Commissioners voted to purchase land and erect a building for care of tuberculosis patients in 1912. The building was erected on the northwest side of Otter Tail Lake in 1913. In 1954 the last patients were moved to a Sanatorium in Walker Minnesota and the building used as a Nursing Home until a new Nursing Home building was built a few years later. The Sanitarium has been torn down.
